As head of the Geochemistry department, Mark Conrad focuses his research on using stable isotope measurements of groundwater and soil gas to identify areas of microbial activity, especially pertaining to bioremediation.
Don DePaolo's research interests focus on using naturally occurring isotopes to explore questions such as origin of the deep-source Hawaiian plume and other hotspots. Applications of this research also include tracing contaminants, understanding life cycles of volcanoes and isotopic evidence that may lead to detecting life on other planets.
