background

Ramamoorthy Ramesh

materials scientist/photovoltaics expert: Materials Sciences Division

Media contact: Julie Chao, jhchao@lbl.gov, (510) 486-6491

Ramamoorthy Ramesh is an innovative materials scientist making advances in photovoltaics. He understands what it will take to capture the power of the sun, from economic, manufacturing, materials and other perspectives.

He has extensive experience in the use of advanced characterization techniques to understand high technology materials and in the science and technology of complex materials. He is known internationally for his work with “multiferroics,” materials that possess two or more of the primary ferroic properties, (e.g., ferroelectric, ferromagnetic, or ferroelastic). His current research interests include thermoelectric and photovoltaic energy conversion in complex oxide heterostructures.

He is also a professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Physics at the University of California, Berkeley.
